Frequently asked questions

Which trades does HygieneLog cover?

HygieneLog is one app for the personal-care trades that disinfect tools and stations rather than sterilizing them: nail salons, and barbershops and cosmetology. When you set up the app you choose the trade you run (you can pick more than one), and you can change that any time in Settings → Trades. Nail salons get the foot-spa cleaning log; barber and cosmetology use the shared implement and end-of-day disinfection logs.

What disinfection records can I keep?

HygieneLog logs implement disinfection (the implements, the EPA-registered disinfectant, contact time, and who did it), end-of-day sanitation, and, for nail salons, foot-spa cleaning plus the periodic deep clean (the weekly or bi-weekly extended soak) as its own scheduled record. You can also build an EPA disinfectant library (add common salon products from a searchable, built-in EPA disinfectant catalog, with their EPA registration number and contact time filled in to confirm, or enter your own) and pick them when logging so those details fill in automatically. Each entry is dated and attributed so the daily record is complete.

Can HygieneLog remind me before my cosmetology or salon license expires?

Yes. HygieneLog has a License renewal tracker on the dashboard: add your establishment license expiry and each technician's license number and expiry, and the app reminds you about a month before each one lapses. Displaying an expired cosmetology, nail, or barber license is one of the most common board citations, so the reminder keeps the whole team current.

Does HygieneLog set my state board rules automatically?

HygieneLog includes researched per-state rules for all 50 states plus DC, drawn from each state's cosmetology or barbering board: which states require a written foot-spa cleaning log, how long records must be kept, and, where the rule sets one, the foot-spa deep-clean cadence (weekly or bi-weekly). A 'Your state's rules' screen in Settings shows what your state expects: the cleaning cadence, the retention window, and a plain-language rule summary with its citation. It still uses sensible defaults rather than encoding every state's exact contact times, so confirm those with your board. The app keeps the dated record, the right retention, and reminders that match your rule.

Is HygieneLog available in Spanish or Vietnamese?

Yes, HygieneLog is fully localized in both Spanish and Vietnamese, using the disinfection and nail-trade terms US salon staff actually use in each language, while keeping the English terms the trade keeps, like 'foot spa' and 'State Board.' It follows your iPhone's language automatically, and you can set the app to English, Spanish, or Vietnamese any time in iOS Settings → HygieneLog → Language. The PDF you hand an inspector always stays in English.

How do I produce a report for an inspector?

Export a paginated PDF for any reporting period in one tap. It opens with a cover page showing your business, license, the period, and a completeness summary, followed by a table for each record type. Share or print it straight from the app.

What is inspection mode?

Inspection mode is a single screen built for the moment a board inspector walks in. It shows whether you're inspection-ready, how many of your records are verified intact by the tamper-evident audit trail, and your required logs. You can open any of them read-only, so it's safe to hand the inspector your phone. You can also log each inspection visit (the date, the inspector or agency, and the result) so your inspection history stays on the record.

What is the 'Verified' badge on a record?

Every record carries a tamper-evident, SHA-256 hash-chained audit trail. When the chain is intact the record shows a 'Verified' badge; if a record was changed outside the normal edit flow it shows 'Altered' instead. This lets you, and an inspector, trust that the log hasn't been quietly altered.

Can more than one person share the same logbook?

Yes, sharing a shop's logbook with other staff is what the Pro plan is for. From Settings → Team & sharing, the owner can invite another person; each invited person needs their own iCloud account and accepts from a link in Mail or Messages. You can set each person to read-only or read-and-write and remove anyone at any time. The records stay in the owner's private iCloud, with no Handler Labs server in the middle.

Where is my data stored, and how do I move to a new phone?

Your records live in your own private iCloud and sync automatically across the iPhones and iPads signed in to the same Apple Account, with no account to create with us, and nothing stored on our servers. To move to a new phone, sign in with the same Apple ID and install the app; your records appear. You can also export a JSON backup any time from Settings → Backup & sync, and restore it from there.

How do the free trial and subscription work?

HygieneLog starts with a 14-day free trial. After that it's a subscription with three plans: Standard (one location, up to 2 techs) at $9.99/month or $89/year; Pro (one location, unlimited techs) at $19.99/month or $159/year; and Multi-location (up to 3 locations, with per-location reports) at $34.99/month or $279/year. It renews automatically until you cancel, which you can do any time in your Apple Account settings. On a new device, use Settings → Restore Purchases to restore your subscription.

How do I delete all my data?

Go to Settings → Delete all data and confirm with 'Delete everything.' This permanently removes the records this app created, both on your device and in your private iCloud, and it can't be undone, so export a backup first if you might need it. A shop that another owner shared with you is not affected by this.
